State Literary-Memorial Museum-Reserve of A. P. Chekhov "Melikhovo"

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov liked to give names to every corner of his estate. The vegetable garden is the "South of France", where the Chekhovs grew rare plants; pond "Aquarium"; "Alley of Love", where, as legend has it, heart desires come true.

The estate is located near the city of Chekhov in the Moscow region, 80 km from Moscow. In Melikhovo, the writer spent seven incredibly fruitful for the world literature years and created 42 masterpieces, including plays "Uncle Vanya" and "The Seagull", as well as travel notes "Sakhalin Island". Once you have crossed the park and garden, where cherry and apple trees bloom in spring, you will find yourself at the writer’s house. It keeps objects, each of which is a small story about life, about fate, about ups and downs of the Chekhov family. The museum collection contains more than thirty thousand exhibits that tell about Anton Chekhov not only as a writer, but also a doctor who helped patients for free, selfless cholera fighter and benefactor. Next to the house there is an outhouse; the exposition presents Russian life of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In depth of the garden hides a cozy wing. Here in 1895 Chekhov wrote "The Seagull".
The museum hosts folk holidays, international theatre festivals, international Chekhov readings, famous musicians perform.
