Sergey Korolev House Museum

In one of Ostankino’s streets, not far from the Monument to the Conquerors of Space, there is a two-story mansion surrounded by a garden. It was owned by Sergey Korolev, an outstanding engineer and mastermind who started his design career as early as the 1930s. Korolev ascended through Stalin’s labor camp system and “sharagi” (closed scientific centers) to become head of the space project in the 1940s and 50s. The heroic Age of Pioneers is his legacy. He was granted a house near VDNH for the launch of Sputnik-1 in 1957, and spent 6 years there. For just as long, his widow owned the mansion, until a museum was opened there in 1975.
All the interiors of the house are authentic. Exhibits bear no museum plaques, which makes them “living” exhibits. These include Korolev's personal belongings, documents, letters, photos, furniture, household items, and works of fine art, as well as scientific, technical and art libraries.
