Museum complex "Routes of Solzhenitsyn"
On September 1, 1994, Alexander Solzhenitsyn himself taught the first lesson for high school students at the Mezinovo school. The writer ended the memorable lesson with the words: "Do not lose your soul."
The museum complex "Routes of Solzhenitsyn" is located in the small village of Miltsevo, in Vladimir Region, and is dedicated to the year of life in these places of the outstanding Russian writer. After long years in the labour camp, Alexander Solzhenitsyn wanted to stay alone. To do this, he chooses a village 100 km from the ancient Russian city of Vladimir, where he works as a village teacher. He lived in the house of the peasant woman Matryona Zakharova, who became the prototype of the heroine in the story “Matryona's Home”.
In 2003, in order to perpetuate the memory of Alexander Isaevich's stay in Miltsevo, in the Mezinovo school where he had worked, a literary museum of local lore "Life and work of A.I. Solzhenitsyn" was created. The exhibition displays the writer's personal belongings, including his Zorky camera, the Physics Experiments at School textbook, the atlas with which he travelled, and much more. In 2013, not far from the local school, the house of Matryona was restored after a fire, where the authentic things of the peasant woman are kept.
