The museum consists of three departments, each of which has its own expositions. The building on the street of the Paris Commune hosts a permanent exhibition "Russian classical art of the XVIII-early XX century". Visitors can see more than 100 authentic works of the greatest Russian masters of painting: V. Surikov, I. Shishkin, I. Aivazovsky, I. Levitan, I. Repin and many others. The exhibition "Art of the XX century"is open in the museum building on Mira Ave. The collection of the Russian avant-garde with works by V. Kandinsky, K. Malevich, D. Shterenberg and other famous craftsmen is of particular interest. At the address of pr. Krasnoyarsk Worker is a permanent exhibition of decorative and applied art, which presents works of ceramics, jewelry, glass, porcelain, as well as works of folk arts and crafts: Khokhloma, Gzhel, Gorodets and many others.
In addition to exhibitions, the Krasnoyarsk Art Museum offers master classes in painting, educational lectures on art and culture, as well as interactive excursions. The museum is actively developing and holds events for both adults and young visitors.

In the middle of the last century, fine art was rapidly developing in Krasnoyarsk, but there were not enough suitable museums and exhibition spaces to display works. Therefore, in 1957, by order of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR on pr. The Krasnoyarsk Regional Art Gallery was founded by the Krasnoyarsk Worker. It first opened its doors to visitors on May 1, 1958, the event was timed to coincide with the 110th anniversary of the birth of Vasily Ivanovich Surikov, a famous Russian painter born in Krasnoyarsk. in 1982, the gallery was given another room on mira ave., a year later the building of the mansion of the merchant family gadalov on the street of the paris commune was transferred. On June 17, 1983, the gallery was transformed into the Krasnoyarsk Art Museum named after V. I. Surikov. In the late 80s, a large-scale restoration was carried out, which gave the Gadalov mansion the appearance of a museum.
The museum has received wide recognition both in Russia and abroad: in the late 90s it received several awards in Paris for cooperation and participation in international exhibitions, in 2000 the museum was included in the list of the 20 best museums in Russia.
