Expositions

Feodosiya Literary-Memorial Museum of A. Grin is one of the pearls of the Crimea. The museum was opened on July 9, 1970 in the house where the writer Alexander Stepanovich Grin lived in 1924-1929.
The museum's exposition embodies the spirit of his romantic creativity. A small one-story house has preserved the memoriality of its walls, but has received an unusual design. Only one room - the office of A. Grin was restored in the form in which it was during the life of the writer, and the house was turned into a symbolic sailing ship by the will and imagination of the creators.
The rooms of this unusual museum resemble cabins with sonorous names: "Frigate's Hold"," Wanderer's Cabin"," Clipper"," Rostral","Captain's Cabin". The white walls are covered with dark wood and Sisal rope.
In addition to photographs, engravings, and manuscripts, there are ship rostra, models of sailboats, old ship instruments and maps, and ocean shells.
The austerity of taste, the immaculate proportions, the complete absence of the signs of everyday life in the museum preserve the state of spirituality untouched by the years, and you feel happy in it, returned to the childhood time of dreams.

The museum's stock collection contains over 17,000 items: the N. N. Grin archive, the personal collection of G. I. Zolotukhin and the materials collected in the course of work: photographs of Grin, manuscripts, lifetime editions of his works, the writer's personal library, books, documents, memorabilia, autographs of Grin and his contemporaries, photographs, works of painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied art.
Permanent author's exhibition of the memorial part of the museum "The life and the work of Alexander Grin" - authors: Savva Brodsky, Gennady Zolotukhin

History

The museum was opened on July 9, 1970 in the house where the writer Alexander Stepanovich Grin lived in 1924-1929.
The idea of creating a museum belongs to the inspector of the Crimean Regional Executive Committee Gennady Ivanovich Zolotukhin. This man became the heart and soul of the museum that had not yet been born and did everything possible to make the Grinovsky museum. Long before the official decision was made, Zolotukhin began to collect documents, books, and things that had at least some relation to Grin.
During his vacations, he traveled to many cities where the writer visited with the sole purpose of meeting with Grin experts and people who knew him. When the order on the organization of the A. S. Grin Museum in Feodosia was issued on November 10, 1966, it was G. I. Zolotukhin who was entrusted with this work, to which he attracted an experienced museum worker Nelly Fedorovna Branitskaya.
As a result of the first scientific trips, interesting materials were discovered: Grin's photographs, manuscripts, lifetime editions of the writer's works. One of the happiest acquisitions is the multi—volume Brockhaus and Efron encyclopedic dictionary, which belonged to Grin, his first book purchase in Feodosia.
Subsequently, these finds, together with what was already in Zolotukhin's personal collection, became the basis of the museum's exposition.
Creating an exhibition-an extremely difficult task, standing on the edge of science and art-at the Grin Museum acquired a special difficulty. The static nature of the classic museum forms-stands, showcases-did not correspond in any way to the magical world of Grin's creativity.
It was necessary to find a special way to tell people about Grin with the help of traditional museum exhibits, but at the same time turn them into completely unusual objects. Many options were tried, and many solutions were rejected. The exposition was almost completed, but the museum was not opened. It suddenly became clear that what was done did not meet the task at hand. It wasn't easy at all to give up a job that was almost finished in order to start a new search.
In 1969, a happy event was the involvement in the creation of the museum of the Moscow artist-architect, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Savva Grigoryevich Brodsky, who a few years earlier had already linked his work with the world of Alexander Grin, making wonderful illustrations for his works.
The project of the museum's artistic design proposed by S. G. Brodsky brought together what seemed to be in the air and could not find expression.
On Galereynaya Street, a ship museum has appeared, where the original character of A. S. Grin's work is vividly and visibly conveyed, where not only the life of the writer, but also the world of his heroes is presented.
The museum is located in a building built in 1891, it has two memorial plaques:
1. "The historical and memorial building is a monument, protected by the state",
2 ." The romantic writer Alexander Grin lived and worked in this house from September 1924 to April 1929»
The writer Anastasia Tsvetaeva expressed her impressions of the museum wonderfully: "In Grin's beloved Feodosia, in the house where he lived, a magical museum was opened: his portraits, his books about ships and shipwrecks, about brave and harsh people, about Frezi Grant running on the waves.
The museum of sailboats and schooners, where the bow of the ship protrudes from the corner, where sea lanterns, ropes and spyglasses live, taking visitors with them to the map of Grinland with new capes and straits, with the cities of Gel-Gyu, Liss, Zurbagan...".
Moscow artists-architects Alexander Brodsky and Ilya Utkin took part in the implementation of this project. They preserved the image of the museum-ship, but added their own aspect, recreating the collective image of the Grin city.
In the center of the spacious hall, divided by arched openings, there was a spherical image of the Grinovsky Zurbagan, lamps in the form of street lamps, a mysterious and attractive view of the sea harbor with the masts of sailing ships…
Stands in the form of windows told about the influence of Alexander Grin's work in modern life. In 1993, based on the work created by A. Brodsky and I. Utkin's Interior Design has created a Gallery of romantic paintings, which allows for a wide representation in the museum of artists whose work is close and consonant with the high spirit of Grin's works.

Interesting Facts

Grin had chosen this place with the unmistakable instinct of a poet. Here, on the street leading to the sea, you will find yourself in the "Grinovsky quarter", marked by the picturesque and sculptural panel "Brigantine".

After climbing the steps, as if on a ladder, and finding yourself on the deck of the museum-ship, you become its guest and traveler in Grin-land.
