The exposition of the Museum is located in fourteen halls. The collection is based on antique furniture, dishes, peasant household items, as well as a large library, old photographs and paintings. The exhibition is based on the autobiographical works of Sergei Aksakov.
The Museum has perfectly restored the interiors described in the writer's books: the rooms of the grandparents and parents, the living room, the children's room and others. Many personal belongings of the Aksakovs have survived to this day. For example, an octagonal table on a massive oak leg, donated to the Museum by a resident of the village of Aksakovo, a table with a marble top decorated with a mosaic panel with floral and vegetable ornaments, a table clock, a bed.
Many people are interested in the literary section of the exhibition. In it you can see materials that tell about the period of Sergei Aksakov's studies in Kazan, his theatrical and critical activities and creativity.
In the literary and musical living room of the Museum, the interior of the Governor's house of the second half of the XIX century is reproduced. The exhibition is dedicated to the son of Sergei Aksakov-Grigory, who in the mid-60s was the Governor of the Ufa province.

The first owner of the house was the writer's grandfather - Nikolai Stepanovich Zubov. He served as a collegiate Advisor. In this house lived and brought up his daughter — Maria Nikolaevna Zubova, who married the Prosecutor of the Zemsky court-Timofey Stepanovich Aksakov. The family moved to the village of Aksakovo when little Seryozha was seven years old. It was here that he immersed himself in the elements of Russian folklore and legends, from here he went to study in Kazan, then returned and lived with his family for several years. In the village of Aksakovo, the writer had five children. Several of his works are written on the materials of local legends, including the famous fairy tale "Scarlet flower".
Now the Aksakov Museum-reserve is an object of cultural heritage. The house-Museum was opened in 1998 on the site of the local history Museum, which included all the buildings belonging to the Aksakovs, namely, two courtyard wings, outbuildings, workshops, a large Park with a pond, the Buguruslan river and the Aksakov necropolis.
And the history of the future house-Museum began in 1908, when Empress Alexandra Feodorovna ordered to buy out part of the ancestral patrimony of the Aksakovs, located in the village of Znamenskoye, with a family estate, a Park, a mill and a pond. A year later, the estate opened a circle of Labor assistance. In the Aksakov patrimony, locksmithing, blacksmithing and carpentry workshops were organized, and in 1910 the main building of training workshops was solemnly opened.

The estate was badly damaged during the Civil war – the house and workshops were looted. Books, paintings, furniture are missing… After the Revolution, there was a craft school, in the 20s-a children's colony. Only in the early 60s, the Aksakov estate was put on state protection as a historical monument. Then the house was demolished, considering it an emergency. In the late 90s, it was recreated from photographs.

Every year the Museum holds an international Aksakov festival with exhibitions, classical music concerts and literary evenings.
